Voters overwhelmingly support Tuesday special education millage

The 7-year, 0.985 mill renewal was supported by nearly 77 percent of those casting ballots in the countywide election. Ann Arbor will receive $5.8 million of the $14 million collected each year.

Pioneer economics students test above average in personal finance

Students in Karla Hitchcock’s economics class recently took the National Financial Capability Challenge, an online test sponsored by the U.S. Treasury Department, designed to test student literacy on the topic of personal finance. The group was helped by volunteers from the nonprofit Personal Finance Education Services.

Tuesday election asks voters to renew millage for special education

(UPDATE MAY 3: Millage is approved by voters.)
The Washtenaw Intermediate School District seeks renewal of a special education millage on Tuesday, May 3. The renewal is for seven years and would run from 2011-17. The millage renewal would generate $14 million countywide, of which $5.8 million would come to the Ann Arbor Public Schools.

Youth Senate offers sense of community for high schoolers

Students are focused on poverty and homelessness in Washtenaw and achievement gap issues among high school students this year. Youth Senate is a school board-approved group, giving them a seat at the board table where they regularly report about their activities.
