Ann Arbor Mayor Christopher Taylor adds to the fun at Burns Park Elementary’s Groundhog Day celebration

Get ready for 6 more weeks of winter

Punxsutawney Phil has nothing on Larry, the Burns Park Elementary stuffed groundhog. During an all-kindergarten ceremony attended by Ann Arbor Mayor Christopher Taylor Thursday morning, it was revealed that Larry did indeed see his shadow, and we’re in for six more weeks of winter.

“It’s the best holiday of the year!” said kindergarten teacher Mary Roderique, who is Larry’s guardian. “And it’s just a lot of fun.”

Although a few of the students outed Larry as “not real!” the few brisk minutes in the school’s outdoor classroom were clearly memorable. Students shook hands with Mayor Taylor and made their way back inside the school. Tucked in the arms of Roderique was Larry.
