Pittsfield Elementary fifth graders have only been playing music together for a few months, but it’s clear they’re off to a great start.
“The fifth grade orchestra students have been very busy learning correct playing posture and instrument position,” says orchestra teacher Elizabeth Paddock, who teaches at Clague Middle, and King, Pittsfield, and Wines Elementary Schools.
In this 30-second clip, she is teaching them how to use their bows to play rhythms.
Also in the video is the fifth grade beginning band under the direction of Craig Berry. Band students are “saying it and fingering it” as they say the note names and finger them before playing.
