This March Madness contest—the Battle of the Sandwiches—is settled

Students at Clague, Pathways, and Pioneer vote to add Nashville Hot Chicken to the menu starting May 1

During lunchtime at Pioneer High School on Wednesday, Roost Nashville Hot Chicken and Big City Barbeque battled it out for student choice, as Chartwells chefs presented a signature item from each of the menus. Students and staff were invited to try a Nashville hot chicken sandwich with onion rings as well as a shredded beef sandwich with a side of mac & cheese, and then vote on what they would like to see featured on our menus.

Students at Clague and Pathways had already sampled and voted earlier this month.

And now that the votes are tallied, it’s official.

Nashville Hot Chicken (Roost) beat the BBQ Beef Sandwich (Big City BBQ) by more than 60 percent of the votes.  Nearly 1000 samples of sandwiches were consumed at the three schools.

It will be featured once a week on the menu at the grilled stations at all secondary schools starting May 1.

“It’s always great to have student input on our menu,” said Chartwells Assistant Director Mike DeVries. “It was great to see so much excitement from the kids about this event.”
