The Scarlett Step Team wows the crowd gathered for Step Afrika! at Hill Auditorium

The Scarlett Step Team wowed a crowd gathered for Step Afrika! last week at Hill Auditorium.

Step Afrika! was presented by the University Musical Society as part of its School Day Performance series.

“Black History is not just one month,” said their coach, Leslie Baugh. “When the 31-member Scarlett Cheer Squad was asked to perform during Step Afrika! at the University of Michigan, these IB risk-takers stepped up.”

Baugh was able to choreograph a routine and teach it to them in just an hour.

“Meeting the team off stage I told them, `You just made the impossible possible. There is nothing standing in your way today nor in the future. Put in the work, so that you can reap the reward that each of you deserves and are worthy of.’”

“Special thanks to Evelyn Daugherty, our administrators, and the many Scarlett colleagues that made this possible for these young ladies!”
