Skyline’s African-American humanities class holds its 2024 Black History Month assembly

Driven by Injustice: Dare to be great! was the theme of the annual school-wide event

Skyline High School’s African-American humanities class put together an incredible assembly showcasing Black history and culture through art, music, dance, and poetry. The theme “Driven by injustice: Dare to be great!” highlighted the struggles and triumphs of African Americans throughout history.

This was the 13th assembly held at the conclusion of Black History Month. Each time, the entire school is treated to one of two performances held consecutively in the school auditorium. The event was held under the direction of Kathy Mackercher and Tonya Whitehorn, who teach the class.

“It’s a celebration of Black history, Black culture, Black people,” said Whitehorn minutes before the first assembly held this morning, March 1. “We’re looking forward to just exposing our kids at the school-wide level to everything that has to do with culture: art, music, dance, and poetry.”
