Applause, applause!

The Pioneer High School A Cappella Choir has been designated through blind audition as the Michigan School Vocal Music Association (MSVMA) 2022 Outstanding Choir.

Only two choirs from across the state are given this distinction, which represents the highest level of recognition by our state organization.  Recordings from concerts earlier this year were submitted for review by the adjudicators.

Pioneer Director of Choirs Steven Lorenz says the choir is thrilled to receive this recognition from the MSVMA.

“The students in the A Cappella Choir work tirelessly, and I am very proud of each student’s growth as musicians this year,” he says.  “We work and play hard in rehearsal, aiming to sing more beautifully, expressively, and with greater connection between the members on a daily basis.  Choir is a place where each voice contributes to the success of the whole, and every student has made indelible contributions to the sound and musicianship of the ensemble.

“I am glad that they have the chance to share their art at the MSVMA All State Festival and happy to know they will add to the rich legacy of this choral program, the Pioneer music department, and the alumni that came before them.”

“After being away for so long getting to sing together again means the world to me and my peers. Receiving an award like this after such a difficult two years demonstrates how when we are able to work together on something we love we are able to create beautiful things.”

Pioneer Choir President Mary Corey said that learning about our All State designation was a really special moment and an amazing way to end four years of choir.

“Even though we didn’t get to sing in person together for over a year,” she said, “everyone kept working really hard during our time online and it has really shown as we have been able to come back together as a group this year.”

This is the fourth time that the A Cappella Choir has received this distinction (2014, 2015, 2019, & 2022).
The A Cappella Choir will be recognized and perform at the 2022 MSVMA All-State Festival (formerly MYAF):
