Pioneer bids a safe farewell to its senior class with all-night Senior Bon Voyage Party

Party will be Thursday, June 7, from 10:30 p.m. until 4 a.m.

Students walk the halls of the Pioneer “cruise ship” at the annual Senior Bon Voyage Party.

After an alcohol-related auto accident claimed the life of an Ann Arbor Pioneer High School student on graduation night in 1994, the Pioneer administration decided the school needed to offer a fun but safe way for its senior class to celebrate graduation together.

Now, for more than 20 years, the student body has embraced this unique, all-night celebration for the school’s senior class, held in the school building each graduation night. Parent volunteers transform the interior of the school into a “cruise ship atmosphere” complete with music, movies, casino games, spa treatments, themed refreshments, and much more.

Each year, this alcohol- and drug-free lock-in event is attended by more than 300 members of the senior class.

“Students love this annual tradition,” explains Anne Steinhauer, a member of Pioneer’s Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO). “Pioneer alumni have described it as one of the best nights of their lives.”

This year’s party takes place on Thursday, June 7, 2018, from 10:30 p.m. until 4 a.m. Tickets are available for $50 through June 1 and $60 thereafter. Students can pick up a registration form at the school office or online at the Pioneer PTSO website (https://bit.ly/2H7HoID), or at the door until 11:30pm on the night of the party.

This Pioneer tradition depends on local support. This year’s Gold Level sponsor is Café Zola. Pioneer appreciates donations from both individuals and organizations. Specifically, organizers are looking for financial contributions to support the event as well as gift cards to distribute to students as prizes during the celebration.  For information, contact Anne Steinhauer at acws1012@hotmail.com.
