New Principal of Mitchell Elementary announced

Mark LaLonde comes to AAPS from Stockbridge Community Schools

Jeanice Kerr Swift, Superintendent of Schools for the Ann Arbor Public Schools, is pleased to announce the selection of a new Principal of Mitchell Elementary School, Mark W. LaLonde.

LaLonde has most recently served as Principal of Heritage School in the Stockbridge Community Schools since the Fall of 2021. Additionally, LaLonde brings a wealth of experience, having served as Principal, Master Educator Coach and Teacher in the Baltimore City Public Schools as well as a Dean of Students and Teacher in the Washington D.C. Public Schools. 

He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Studies Education from Eastern Michigan University and a Master of Arts Degree in Educational Leadership from Western Governors University.

Superintendent Swift shares: “His depth of career experience as a teacher, principal and educator coach, his commitment to equity and opportunity for all students, and his proven school leadership success over time make Mr. LaLonde the right choice to serve the Mitchell community. We are delighted to welcome Mr. LaLonde to the Ann Arbor Public Schools team.” 

LaLonde writes: “It is with great excitement that I accept the position of Principal at Mitchell Elementary. I look forward to the future we will craft together as we work to transform all students into creative, reflective, and analytical problem solvers who are prepared to thrive in an evolving world.”
