New principal of Ann Arbor Open announced

Krista Visser comes to AAPS from Mt. Morris Consolidated Schools

Jeanice Kerr Swift, Superintendent of Schools,  Ann Arbor Public Schools, is pleased to announce the selection of Krista Visser as principal of Ann Arbor Open at Mack School.

Visser started her administrative career just outside of Ann Arbor at Whitmore Lake Public Schools. She comes to the Ann Arbor Public Schools from Mt. Morris Consolidated School District, where she currently serves as a Principal. She has ten years of experience as a PK8 school leader, served as a classroom teacher for eight years, and also has experience as a K12 curriculum leader.

Visser completed a Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan, and she holds a Master of Educational Leadership from Concordia University.

Dr. Swift shares, “Ms. Visser’s proven experience as a school leader in K-8 schools, her commitment to connecting positively with and supporting students, as well as her experience in building relationships with parents and families within a warm and welcoming school community, all demonstrate the excellent match in Ms. Visser as principal for Ann Arbor Open.”

Visser writes, “I can’t begin to express how excited I am to join the Ann Arbor Public Schools administrative team, particularly Ann Arbor Open! Over the past twelve years as an administrator, I’ve had the most success when blending home and school together. I am looking forward to working with staff, students, and their families to determine how best to move Ann Arbor Open School forward into its promising future. We will accomplish this by working productively together to reach our full potential as a school and as individuals.”

Superintendent Swift extends a special thank you to the teachers, staff, parents, and community members who served on the interview teams during a robust selection process.
