Jean Holmes became King Elementary’s first kindergarten teacher when the school opened in 1969, and taught there for 19 years.

On Monday, her two sons surprised her with a trip back to King, where Principal Mary Cooper announced that her former classroom is now officially named for her.

“I loved teaching here and really miss the children,” said Holmes, who lives just up the street at Glacier Hills. “I have lots of happy memories here.”

The three kindergarten classes, as well as the class of Young Five’s, performed a few of their favorite songs for Holmes, who was happy to join in and clap to the beat.
