Huron and Pioneer play in Big Day Prep Showdown Saturday

A portion of presale ticket proceeds to benefit local football programs

Football teams from Ann Arbor’s Pioneer and Huron high schools are scheduled to play this weekend in the Big Day Prep Showdown VI event at Eastern Michigan University’s Rynearson Stadium.

The event, which will feature seven games and 14 schools, runs Thursday through Saturday and is touted as the official kick-off the 2010 prep football season in Michigan. Rynearson Stadium is on North Hewitt Road between Huron River Drive and Washtenaw Avenue.

Huron will play Saturday, Aug. 28 at 5 p.m. against Chelsea and the Pioneer faces Detroit Cass Tech Saturday in an 8 p.m. nightcap. A portion of all presale ticket revenue benefits each school’s athletic department.

Tickets for the Saturday games are $7.75 for students and $9.75 for adults buying tickets in advance or $12 for everyone at the gate. Children age 5 and under are free. Admission is good for all games on Saturday. Presale ticket sales are available up to 2 hours before gametime. Visit online to purchase tickets. A Thursday-Friday pass is also available for other scheduled games.

The event is sponsosred by Detroit Sports, a subsidiary of the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau that was formed in 2001 to bring regional, national and international amateur sporting events to metro Detroit.  Since its inception in 2005, the Big Day Prep Showdown has been the premier opening-week high school football event in the state of Michigan and in 2008 was named the Outstanding Locally Created Event by the National Association of Sports Commissions.
