Forsythe Thinking Cap Club places 2nd of 49 teams

The Forsythe Thinking Cap Club 6th graders won a close second-place finish out of 49 teams in the Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl Lakes Regional held on Nov. 18.   The Viking Auks scored 1209 out of a perfect 1500, and were were barely bested by Westwood Middle School of Blaine, Minnesota, who scored 1212.

Longtime rivals Boulan Park Middle School of Troy came in 7th with 1078.

Thinking Cap Club is a club open to all Forsythe students, coached by Dan Ezekiel, with help from Assistant Coach Mike Shaw and team parent Mary Edwards.

The competition consisted of 100 multiple-choice questions from all the academic areas, at all levels of difficulty.  The team had one minute to figure out the answer to each question.  The Auks answered 86 questions correctly on the first try and eight more correctly on the second try, leaving only six questions incorrect.  Coaches Ezekiel and Shaw thought this was an especially amazing achievement because the team had only a few chances to practice before the competition.  Both coaches were impressed with the positive Viking teamwork and sportsmanship the team showed.  A fun fact about the competition is that there was a 5th grade competition also, and it was won by Viking Elementary in Holmen, Wisconsin.

Stay tuned for the results of the 7th/8th grade competition coming soon. Spoiler alert: This team did well, but not quite as well as the sixth graders.

The silver medalists pose for a group shot at the competition. They came within four points of first place, and their coaches are thrilled with their performance.
