AAPS students this week will get a taste of Mexico—literally.
Global Eats, a program of Chartwells, is featuring Mexican food this month. The lunch of the week for middle and high school students on Wednesday, Oct. 11 will be Albondigas con Arroz: chicken meatballs, vine-ripe tomatoes, carrots, peas, and cilantro lime rice.
“We are supporting a different country every month for four months,” said Chartwells spokesperson Sandy Short, explaining that every Wednesday, cafeterias will feature a dish from the featured country at lunch.
This week, the dish is Albondigas con Arroz: chicken meatballs, vine-ripe tomatoes, carrots, peas, and cilantro lime rice.
“We will feature a dish once a month on a bigger scale at one of our secondary schools,” said Short, explaining that Chartwells staff will pick one of the featured entrees of the week—usually on the menu on Wednesdays—and do a tasting of this dish at a table set up with a small display the day before for the students to sample and become eager to have it for lunch the next day as a main dish.
All schools will have a dish that represents the featured country on their menus while secondary schools will have a bit more elaborate dish than the elementary schools, said Short.
Next month Huron High School will feature an authentic Italian lunch.
