Huron freshman’s T-shirts bring hope, dollars to friends in Japan

Andy Hsiao created a shirt with a “Fight on, Japan!” message, which became a hot item sold throughout the Ann Arbor community. He sold 443 shirts, raising nearly $2,500 for the Rotary Japan Disaster Recovery Fund.

All-district AAPS art exhibition continues through this week

Pottery, paintings, jewelry and mixed media are all represented in the district’s largest student art show of the year. Exhibit hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and noon to 7 p.m. Saturdays. The Slusser Gallery is in the U-M School of Art & Design Building, 2000 Bonisteel Blvd., just off of Fuller.

WITH VIDEO: Abbot School recently celebrated the elementary school’s award as a National Wildlife Federation Schoolyard Habitat. A two-year project transformed the courtyard from a an overgrown, unused space to one that welcomes wildlife and celebrates nature.

Pittsfield 3rd-graders learn about the fun and livelihood of trout fishing

WITH VIDEO: Third-graders from Pittsfield Elementary School took a field trip this month to Spring Valley Trout Farm for day of fishing and learning about fish habitat and aquaculture. Teacher Melissa Jaeger’s family owns and operates the farm, just west of Dexter.
