Voters overwhelmingly support Tuesday special education millage

The 7-year, 0.985 mill renewal was supported by nearly 77 percent of those casting ballots in the countywide election. Ann Arbor will receive $5.8 million of the $14 million collected each year.

C-SPAN honors 3 for video creation on ‘Stadium Bridges’

WITH VIDEOS: Rosanna Neuhausler, Ryan Murphy and Jack Wissman received an award in the C-SPAN 2011 StudentCam Competition for their project called “Stadium Bridges,” which details problems along the stretch of roadway that many students travel each day. A C-SPAN official was on hand recently to present awards to the three.

Online project helps Thurston teacher gain new reading area

Allison Zolad, a first-grade teacher at Thurston Elementary School, has reached her goal of getting a bookshelf and cozy reading rug for her classroom, thanks to a project she posted on DonorsChoose.org. Members of the Thurston community, alumni and donated gift certificates helped her reach her goal. Even strangers contribute, she said. Sue Beech, a teacher at Pattengill Elementary also got a T-shirt project funded through donorschoose.org.
