Ann Arbor Public Schools’ PLTW and CTE Expo showcases diverse and exciting programs available to all students

The Skyline High School Commons was the setting Tuesday night for the Ann Arbor Public Schools’ Project Lead the Way (PLTW) and Career and Technical Education (CTE) Expo.

Project Lead the Way is available to all elementary, middle, and high school students, including engineering, computer science, and biomedical science pathways.  AAPS CTE program offerings are Automotive Technology, Business, Computer Science, Cosmetology, Culinary, Engineering, Health Science, and Homebuilding.

Hundreds of students, parents, and community members gathered for the much-anticipated expo that showcases the district’s wide range of innovative and forward-thinking programs in Project Lead The Way STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) and Career and Technical Education (CTE).

As visitors entered the venue, they were greeted by a display of student projects and demonstrations.

Representing grades Young 5s-12 district-wide, students were engaged in hands-on learning experiences ranging from the aspiring engineers commandeering their robots to aspiring chefs handing out cupcakes to cosmetology students doing nails while talking about the benefits of their program.

Other students displayed their hands-on, interactive STEAM demonstrations, showcasing their ability to think critically and problem-solve.

“We are glad hundreds of students, caregivers, community members, and business partners were able to come out to our annual expo,” says Sarah Schemanske. PLTW Lead Teacher at Wines Elementary. “Students were excited to showcase their learning and capstone projects. It was a great opportunity for people to see the spectrum of offerings that are available throughout the district.”

She said that anyone with questions about program offerings should contact Tom Pachera at pachera@aaps.k12.mi.us

“One of our main goals and hopes is that all students understand the variety of program offerings,” she said. “We are already looking forward to seeing more people at the expo next year.”
