Twenty-two Ann Arbor Public Schools retirees walked the red carpet this week at a district celebration for their years of work. The retiring employees attending the reception combined service with AAPS is nearly 700 years. Overall this year, 87 retirees shared a combined 2,074 years of service to the AAPS community.

School Board Vice-President Glynda Wilks offered thanks and best wishes to all of the retirees. “I want to thank everyone for the service that you’ve committed to our district over the years,” Wilks said. “We don’t take you for granted. I hope the next chapter will be even more exciting.”

Superintendent Jazz Parks highlighted the legacy the retirees leave as they move onto their next chapter. “Your contributions to education have not only touched the lives of students and young people, they have touched the lives of your colleagues,” Parks said. “You have made an indelible imprint on each other and how you show up and how you lead in your classrooms and how you educate, care for and support students and each other, and we appreciate you for that. Each of you has played a role in creating an environment where learning thrives and professional practice thrives and your educational wisdom is apparent and it shows up in what you do and how you do it every single day.”

Parks shared that the reception is just a small expression of our gratitude, appreciation and best wishes for your future.“As you embark on your next chapter please know that we hope that you find fulfillment in whatever it is that you do next, and we hope that it brings you joy, it continues to bring purpose to your life and it be filled with adventure and happiness.”
