Ann Arbor Public Schools Environmental Sustainability Framework: We want to hear your thoughts

In a letter to the AAPS community, Superintendent Jeanice Swift and Executive Director of Environmental Sustainability Emile Lauzzana write:

It’s a great day in the Ann Arbor Public Schools as we share the first-ever AAPS Environmental Sustainability Framework today and ask for your valued input and feedback.

The Environmental Sustainability Framework is supported by the AAPS Board of Education Policy 8000: Environmental Sustainability and the development process over this past year has been informed by the AAPS Environmental Sustainability Taskforce, a team of students, staff, parents, and community members who have contributed significantly to this work.

The Framework leverages the unique position we have in the AAPS and in our community to educate environmental and climate literate generations of students, as well as to lead by example in modeling responsible organizational behavior. In doing so, we cast a line deep into the next generation of environmentally conscious and active leaders and citizens.

The mission statement of the Environmental Sustainability Framework summarizes this important endeavor: In the AAPS, we are committed to caring for the environment and to modeling and achieving an environmentally sustainable existence. We demonstrate this commitment, both through our critical mission of educating generations of students as strong stewards of the environment and also in living an environmental commitment with every decision across every area of the organization.

We would love to hear your thoughts. The AAPS Environmental Sustainability Framework is open for public commentary for the next 2 weeks.  We look forward to hearing from our community to help inform and strengthen these important efforts.

You can view the entire AAPS Environmental Sustainability (ES) Framework here.

We also have an Executive Summary available here, and you can view the Powerpoint Presentation to the Board of Education here.

Thank you for your partnership in support of our students, the Ann Arbor Public Schools, and in commitment to our shared future in this beautiful Ann Arbor community.
