The Ann Arbor Public Schools Library Services Department shared their annual report to the Board of Education at last night’s meeting. The report is timely, as April is recognized as National School Library Month.
Highlights from the report include:
- AAPS Librarians directly support 6,000 students a day
- 28 AAPS Libraries are certified School Libraries of the 21st Century, three more have Qualified status – This is based on a strong commitment to information literacy and student achievement focused in teaching for 21st century learning, building the 21st century learning environment and leading the way to 21st century learning
- The Friends of the Ann Arbor Public Schools Libraries formed in 2024 as the first Friends group dedicated to a public school library system in the nation. They received a $15,000 grant to purchase audiobooks in Sora and have fundraised for additional resources and training.
- So far this school year 216,520 books have been checked out of AAPS libraries. An additional 112,377 Ebooks and audio-books have been checked out via Sora for 52,135 total hours read.
- Since fall 2020, there have been 919,039 all-time checkouts via Sora
