AAPS celebrates alumni turned Olympians competing in Paris

Two recent AAPS alumni are set to make their Olympic debuts as they compete for Team USA in the Summer Olympics in Paris in the coming days.

Zach Hammer, 18, graduated this spring from Skyline, and Hobbs Kessler, 21, graduated from Community in 2021. Kessler ran for Skyline, where his mother, Serena Kessler is an English Teacher.

Hammer will be competing in speed climbing, a sport which debuted at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. Kessler will compete in the 800 and 1,500-meter races, the first American man to qualify for both races at a single Olympics since 1976.

Kessler’s first event begins Friday, August 2 with the first round of the 1500-meter race. The finals for that event are on August 6. For the 800-meter race, the first round begins on August. 7, with the finals on August 10.

Hammer’s first round event in speed climbing begins on August 6 with the finals on August 8.

AAPS is so proud of Hobbs and Zach and will be cheering them on as they go for the gold this summer and we can’t wait to watch them represent our country in Paris.
