Series I of the Tech Bond implementation is underway.
The $45.8 million bond, which voters approved in May 2012, is being spent in three series. AAPS administrators updated the Board of Education on the ongoing Tech Bond projects at a special study session on Nov. 20 at Huron High School.
Series I began in Summer 2012 and funds $27,275,000 of equipment and projects, which include: replacing classroom projectors; refreshing desktop and mobile devices for students, teachers and administrative staff; and upgrading data cabling, network switches and wireless.
Overall, 1600 new computers were set up on the first day of school. Each elementary lab now has 32 computers and the middle and high school labs each have 35.
Huron and Community High School’s media centers have new cabling power, ethernet plugs, projectors and also new walls and carpet (the last two were provided with sinking fund money). All media centers are receiving new iMac desktops.
The recently-renamed Argus-IMRA Planetarium at Pioneer High School will receive a new Digistar 5 projector; installation is scheduled for Dec. 3-5.
Series I also includes network cabinet extensions (the cabinets that hold cables) installed at Bryant, Pattengill, Carpenter, Pittsfield, Angell, Clague, Logan and Pioneer.
Cooling equipment will also be installed in network cabinets with higher temperatures at Bryant, Pattengill, Pittsfield, Scarlett, Bach and Pioneer; these are also expenses that are allowed to be covered by the sinking fund.
In Winter and Spring 2014 Human Resources will get new finance software and hardware.
Series II, which begins in 2015, includes $10,570,000 worth of projects and equipment. Series III, beginning in 2018, will spend another $8,010,000.
