A minute in the room: Scarlett Middle School 6th grade science

Editor’s note: Have you ever wished you could quietly peek into a classroom—not for a special event, but simply to see what an ordinary day looks like? That’s the idea behind our new feature, “A minute in the room,”  in which we open the classroom door just a little wider and celebrate the little things that make our schools such special places.

From the excitement of seeing a feather under a microscope for the first time to testing their own scientific ideas, Scarlett Middle School science teacher Kristen Tabert creates hands-on experiences that encourage students to ask questions, experiment, and think like scientists.

“I want them to leave my classroom feeling empowered to wonder, experiment, and never stop asking, ‘What would happen if…?’”
