A minute in the room: Pathways to Success opens school store

Students earn their way to prizes one class period at a time

Editor’s note: Have you ever wished you could quietly peek into a classroom—not for a special event, but simply to see what an ordinary day looks like? That’s the idea behind our new feature, “A minute in the room,”  in which we open the classroom door just a little wider and celebrate the little things that make our schools such special places.

Students at Pathway to Success are earning their way to prizes one class period at a time.

Interim Principal Kristal Jaaskelainen explains how it works: Each student can earn up to three points per period, or up to nine points per day, just for doing what they need to do: going to class, doing their classwork, and managing their technology. And then they can spend those points every day on snacks in the new school store. The grand opening was today, and students happily lined up to spend their points.

“And the kids absolutely love this as an opportunity,” she said.
