Two ensembles from Ann Arbor Pioneer High School’s celebrated choir program were named top performers at the Michigan School Vocal Music Association (MSVMA) State Solo & Ensemble Festival held April 10–11.
The Choraliers, a chamber choir within the Pioneer A Cappella Choir, earned distinction as the top large ensemble (6–20 members), while Fresh Treble, a freshmen SSA trio, was chosen as the top small ensemble (2–5 members). Both groups will advance to the MSVMA All-State Festival in May—the highest honor for high school vocal music achievement in Michigan.
The Choraliers include: Quincy Behm, Riley Dominick, Lily Drummond, Anwita Dutta, Noel Gozon, Walter Groening, Liam Kaleba, Dominic LaRocca, Andrew Loh, Ryan Lorenz, Jack Miller, Asher Morgan, Naomi Pace, Isabella Pancaro, Sola Peters, Abby Rohrer, Erik Saran, Eva Steinhoff, Gabby Thompson, and Bowen Zou.

At the festival, the ensembles will perform alongside the state’s best, including 13 large ensembles, 5 small ensembles, and 8 soloists selected statewide. This marks the second consecutive year the Choraliers have received this designation and the fourteenth straight year that Pioneer Choirs have had an ensemble, choir, or soloist honored at this prestigious event.
The Pioneer Choirs are directed by Steven Lorenz, with Seohyun You serving as collaborative pianist. Their continued success underscores the school’s long-standing reputation for excellence in choral performance and musical artistry.
