Tappan Middle School highlights vegetarian options with special lunch event

Vegetarian options are available year-round at every school

Tappan Middle School today dedicated one side of its serving line to a special Vegetarian Station, offering students who prefer plant-based meals a wide variety of options all in one place.

The station featured every vegetarian item served daily, with Friday’s highlights including Create Vegetarian Lasagna, Sono-Beans and rice with all the toppings served on top of chips or in a wrap, Pineapple Parfaits, and Sunbutter and Jelly sandwiches. Over at the pizza station, students could choose from margherita pizza, a Cheese Stick meal, or a Veggie Nugget meal.

Chartwells Marketing Director Sandy Short explained that the goal of the event was to showcase the variety of vegetarian meals available every day at all AAPS schools.

“We have had a large number of parents and students concerned that we do not offer enough vegetarian options on our menu,” said Short. “This awareness will help all understand how many actual non-meat options are available daily.”

Friday’s event served as a reminder that vegetarian options are available year-round at every school, with at least 2 options offered daily at elementary schools and up to 7 at secondary schools.
