A minute in the room: Skyline High School Sculpture and Ceramics class

Editor’s note: Have you ever wished you could quietly peek into a classroom—not for a special event, but simply to see what an ordinary day looks like? That’s the idea behind our new feature, “A minute in the room,”  in which we open the classroom door just a little wider and celebrate the little things that make our schools such special places.

Step into Sculpture and Ceramics 1 at Skyline High School, where students explore a range of materials in an introductory course led by teacher Candace Ottaviano.

Many of the class’s students are freshmen, and for a lot of them, this is their first art class at Skyline. They begin by developing sculptural concepts, then move into pottery, where they create functional pieces from clay.
