CTE Coordinator Karen Eisley is hoping for a big turnout at an event tomorrow night that will showcase the many career paths available to AAPS students.
Titled “Fitting the Pieces Together for Career Success,” the evening will be a chance for students and parents to meet with representatives from the apprentice/skilled trades; speak with Washtenaw Community College admission representatives and local professionals from various fields; and tour the labs.
The event will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 3 at Huron High School.

- Auto Service Technology
- Business Administration and Management
- Construction Trades / Homebuilding
- Homebuilding Application
- Cosmetology
- Cosmetology Application
- Culinary and Hospitality
- Digital / MultiMedia / Web Page Design
- Engineering
- Finance / Accounting
- Health Science
- Health Science Application
- Marketing Sales & Services and Entrepreneurship
The classes are available to all AAPS students, no matter what they plan to do after high school, although not all buildings offer the same classes. Some Skyline students, for instance, come to Huron for health science classes, and provide their own transportation there.
- Students learn the finer points of construction in John Birko’s popular Homebuilding classes.
Students who complete a Career and Technical Education class earn high school credit and possible college credit at Washtenaw Community College.
Direct credit with Eastern Michigan University is offered for the engineering courses.
“Some families want to know about other paths to high-paying, high-demand jobs,” said Eisley. “And that’s what this night is all about.
