Skyline sophomores selected to compete at the Wharton Center for Performing Arts June 1

Two Skyline High School sophomores were nominated to compete in the annual Sutton Foster Awards for outstanding performances in Skyline Theatre productions this school year.

Will Powers was selected for the role of Frederick in The Pirates of Penzance, and Claire Hurley for the role of Major General in The Pirates of Penzance.

Both will compete at the Sutton Foster Awards June 1 at the Wharton Center for Performing Arts in East Lansing against 128 high school students performing selections from their school musicals and a variety of Broadway medleys.

“I am thrilled that Will and Claire were nominated for this honor,” said Skyline High School Theatre Director Anne-Marie Roberts. “Both Will and Claire worked hard to create truly unique modern interpretations of these iconic characters of the musical theatre. Because of their artistic skill and ingenuity Skyline audiences were exposed to fun, fresh takes of Frederick and Major General.”
