Scarlett Middle School teacher in the running for national “Favorite Teacher” contest

PLTW teacher Leslie Baugh is in second place—so far

When Scarlett Middle School Project Lead the Way teacher Leslie Baugh checked her email Tuesday, she expected nothing out of the ordinary. Instead, she found herself suddenly named among the Top 10 finalists in the “America’s Favorite Teacher” contest.

What began as a skeptical response to an email invitation quickly turned into something much bigger. Initially unsure whether the contest was legitimate, Baugh submitted her information on a whim—and promptly forgot about it.

As the contest continues, Baugh says she is both grateful and motivated. She also embraces her competitive spirit.

“I really wanna win this!” she says.

And if she ultimately takes the top spot? She says the award will shine a light on Scarlett Middle School, AAPS, and the teaching profession as a whole.

Angel, a seventh grader, hopes everyone votes for Baugh.

“Ms. Baugh is a hard-working excellent teacher, but she’s not only a teacher,” he says. “She’s like a mom.”

Voters can cast one ballot a day.
