Ann Arbor Rec&Ed will host its third annual Opening Day celebration for Youth Baseball at the newly refurbished fields at Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday, June 15, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Detroit Tiger’s mascot, PAWS, will be at the park for photos and visits with guests from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. PAWS will also be throwing out the first ceremonial pitch at 9:45 a.m. to officially kick off the 2013 Rec&Ed Youth Baseball Season! (Guests are encouraged to bring their cameras!)
The Opening Day Celebration will be emceed by Jenna Bacolor, the Director of Rec&Ed. Back by popular demand is Kimberly Ringer, of the band All Directions, who will sing the National Anthem and lead the crowd in a rousing rendition of “Take Me out to the Ball Game.” To top things off, Dashing Dogs will be selling Michigan made hot dogs, potato chips, and Faygo beverages, with a portion of proceeds being donated to the Rec&Ed Youth Sports Scholarship Fund.
During the Parade of Athletes, Rec&Ed’s own Larry Dishman, Team Sports Coordinator, will announce each youth player participating in the first game.
