Pioneer musicians honored at state festivals

As a result of their performance at the State Solo and Ensemble Festivals on March 21, the following Pioneer Band and Orchestra students have been nominated from more than 10,000 high school students from the state of Michigan to participate in the MSBOA Youth Arts Festival soloist auditions on April 10 at Central Michigan University:

Michael Botello (trumpet), Ingrid Ford (flute), Michaela Hennebury (clarinet), Trevor King (bassoon), Anurima Kumar (clarinet), Michael Lee (violin), Jonathan Lynn (alto saxophone), Emily Peterson (viola), Griffin Roy (clarinet), Ellen Sauer (flute), Nick Simon (alto saxophone)

The following have been nominated as Outstanding Ensembles:

Clarinet Ensemble: Jinyoung Kim (clarinet), Anurima Kumar (clarinet), Daniel Yoo (bass clarinet)

Saxophone Quartet: Nick Simon (soprano sax), Ben Janevic (alto sax), Joseph Buiteweg (tenor sax), Avishav Eliav (baritone sax)

Woodwind Ensemble: Ellen Sauer (flute), Alex Maynard (oboe), Griffin Roy (clarinet), Trevor King (bassoon), Melisa Palfey (French horn)

Brass Ensemble: Ian McKenny (trumpet), Katy Ross (trumpet), Melissa Palfey (French horn), Nate Heed (trombone), Anna Inohara (tuba)

String Ensemble: Sarah Adams (string bass), Judy Pao (violin), Nicole Xu (piano)

The following Pioneer Band and Orchestra students have been nominated to the Michigan Youth Arts Festival Honors Band:

Michael Botello (trumpet), Jinyoung Kim (clarinet), Anurima Kumar (clarinet), Griffin Roy (clarinet),  Nick Simon (alto saxophone)

The following Pioneer Band and Orchestra students have been nominated to the Michigan Youth Arts Festival Honors Orchestra:

Rohan Kapoor (violin), Trevor King (bassoon, first chair), Michael Lee (violin), Max Meza (string bass), Melissa Palfey (French horn), Emily Peterson (viola), Dallan Roan (violin, concertmaster), Ellen Sauer (flute, first chair), Jonathan Thomas (French horn), Irene Wei (violin).
