Pioneer Girls Swim and Dive claims sixth straight state championship

Pioneer girls swim and dive team with the trophy after winning their sixth straight MHSAA Division One State Championship at Oakland University

For the sixth straight season Pioneer’s Girls Swim and Dive team has claimed the MHSAA Division One state championship. Pioneer swept the relays and claimed a total of 404 points, 155 points ahead of their closest competition at Oakland University on Friday, November 21st.

In addition to dominating the relays, sophomore Tallulah Beg won the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke. Ninth grader Kia Alert won the 50 free and senior Katelyn Van Ryn won the 100 free.

Relay teams included Cecila Walusek, Tallulah Beg, Poppy LaCrosse and Kia Alert for the 200 medley. Alert, Walusek, Cecilia Cook and Katelyn Van Ryn swam the 200 free relay. The 400 free relay was Van Ryn, Suryn Lee, Cook and Yahanna Silva Castro.
