Michigan Department of Education official tours Scarlett

MDE Director of the Office of Educational Supports, Corinne Edwards visits Melissa Saeed's classroom full of students

The Michigan Department of Education Director of the Office of Educational Supports, Corinne Edwards toured Scarlett Middle School last week.

Edwards says she was interested in how the school integrates the IB program into opportunities for students. She also wanted to learn more about how Scarlett’s significant number of teachers EL certified and how that’s integrated into the learning environment.

While she had read about these features of Scarlett, Edwards says it was amazing to see what it looks, smell, and feels like in person. “The way that it is structured here, really I think plays to the strengths of the teachers,” Edwards says. “The students really get a two-fer, in the sense that extra emphasis on how do we create that environment within the classroom where there is a family unit there.”
