Chartwells AAPS hosted its annual Apple Crunch Day district-wide on Thursday. Each student was given a local, farm-fresh apple to crunch on for the celebration. The apples came from Nemeth’s Greenhouse, Kapnick Orchards, Lesser Farms, Hildebrand, and Friske, and farmers and representatives from Nemeth’s, Lesser, and the Common Market joined schools for the event. Thanks to all who got these delicious, healthy apples to every school, including Pattengill Elementary, shown here.
“We want to see students get excited about access to local farm fresh produce, which is why we are so appreciative that the farmers from a few of our suppliers were able to make it to this event,” said Lily Freese, Assistant Marketing for AAPS. “We were stationed at Pattengill Elementary, and the students loved it! They would come up asking for seconds, thirds, and even to take some on the go!”
This is an annual event adopted from the Food Systems Team at Michigan State University that has now become a staple for the Chartwells AAPS team.
