Chartwells AAPS brought a burst of sunshine to lunch at Carpenter Elementary on Thursday with a special Mood Boost and Seed to Table event. Students enjoyed tasty samples of sunflower seeds and sunbutter with celery sticks, and learned how food can impact both their mood and health.

Mood Boost is a concept that helps students understand how food can be beneficial to their physical and mental health, said Lily Freese, Assistant Marketing for Chartwells AAPS.
“For example, we served celery and sun butter and celery falls under the ‘I am Strong’ Mood Boost characterization,” she said. “We also integrated Seed to Table, emphasizing how important local produce is. We used sunflowers as our theme in order to bring these two concepts together, using the happy nature of sunflowers and the benefits of using the seeds in various ways for the Mood Boost portion and sharing more about the actual growing of the plant and the use of the seeds for the Seed to Table side.”
There are more events in store for the month of November, said Freese, noting that there will continue to be an emphasis on local produce.
