Ann Arbor Student Building Industry Program celebrates latest home at annual banquet

As we near the end of the school year, the Ann Arbor Student Building Industry Program recently celebrated this year’s home at the program’s annual banquet.

Thanks to the hard work of 29 students supported by local builders, contractors and related industry professionals, they are nearing completion on a 3,600 square foot luxury residence at 5172 Pratt Road. It’s the largest home built by the homebuilding program, now in its 56th year.

This year’s home includes a first floor primary suite, all secondary bedrooms include private connecting baths and generous closets, a three-car garage and a large basement ready to be finished.

Homebuilding teacher Mark Valchine says a couple of students and contractors will finish the home over the coming weeks and then it will be on the market later this summer. The program offers students the opportunity to learn a wide variety of homebuilding skills through hands-on learning and requires them to learn and use teamwork throughout the construction process.
