AAPS Summer Music Program brings young musicians together

125 students are spending three weeks making music, building skills, and having fun alongside experienced student mentors.

With instruments in hand and music filling the halls at Skyline High School, 125 students are taking part in the Ann Arbor Public Schools Summer Music Program this year.
The three-week program welcomes incoming sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade students, who choose from band, choir, orchestra, jazz, and instrument-specific classes. Twenty-five high school musicians serve as counselors, helping guide younger students throughout the experience.

Students who stay for the full day also participate in a symphony experience, bringing all of the program’s musicians together to perform as one ensemble. Along with rehearsals and classes, students enjoy lunch and daily activities designed to build friendships and make learning fun.
