The Gallery at Washtenaw Community College is filled with a collection of artwork that showcases the creative spirit of AAPS students. From impressive elementary school pieces to more sophisticated high school works, the Michigan Art Education Association’s Region 3 Show highlights the artistic journey of K-12 students across the district.

This exhibition features 47 pieces representing the diverse talents of AAPS students.

Elementary school artists contributed 15 works under the guidance of teachers Rachel Jensen, Chris Cerniglia, Jennifer Sheppard, and Deb Ennis, with nine pieces advancing to State Adjudication.

The middle school section boasts seven pieces from students of Sarah Griesinger and Deb Ennis, five of which will move forward to the state level.

The high school category presents an impressive array of 25 pieces, created by students under the direction of Lyndsey Vockel, Hannah Crabtree, Candace Ottaviano, Beth Portincasa, and Meredith Giltner. Twenty-one of these works have been selected for State Adjudication, demonstrating the exceptional quality of AAPS’ art programs.

Selected works will advance to the State Show at Adrian College from March 15 to April 5, with some pieces potentially being chosen for the Michigan Department of Education Show or the prestigious Governor’s Traveling Show.

The community is invited to celebrate these young artists at the closing reception on February 28th from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Gallery at WCC.
