AAPS students Shine in 2025 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

Ann Arbor Public Schools demonstrated its rich artistic talent as students from Community, Skyline, Huron, and Pioneer high schools earned prestigious recognition in the 2025 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. The competition, which once counted Andy Warhol among its winners, continues to celebrate emerging young artists across the nation.

The awarded works will be showcased at the College for Creative Studies Ford Campus until Feb. 28, offering the public a chance to experience these pieces firsthand. Gold Key winners will advance to compete at the national level.

On Feb 11, the artists were honored at the historic Detroit Film Theatre located at the Detroit Institute of Arts.

Pioneer High School emerged with a strong showing, with Cecilia Lodge Russell, Kevin Chen, and Caroline Kugler earning Gold Key distinctions. The school’s Silver Key recipients included Sienna Kim, Caroline Kugler, Kevin Chen, Haneul Park, and Zoe Wang. Honorable Mentions were awarded to Sofia Jimenez, Haneul Park, Sofia Jimenez, Olivia Tao, and Cecilia Lodge Russell.

At Huron High School, Jay Hatch secured a Gold Key award, while Elsa Pasquariello earned a Silver Key. Honorable Mentions went to Nandia Erdenebat, Jay Hatch, Kate Locke, Yuanchen Zhao, and Lily Zocher.

Community High School’s Gabriel Deedler captured a Gold Key in Photography. Silver Keys were awarded to Meghan Pillote for Drawing & Illustration, Bee Whalen in the Portfolio Category, and Gabriel Deedler for Photography. Ionie Steudle received an Honorable Mention in Fashion, as did Cassidy McKenna in Painting.

Skyline High School’s artists also made their mark, with Lumi Mott earning a Gold Key for “Life To Death,” a ceramic vessel. Leon Wand received both Gold and Silver Keys for oil paintings “Insides” and “Still Life.”
