The Ann Arbor Public Schools thanked retirees and wished them well at a reception on Wednesday, June 18th.
Superintendent Jazz Parks shared that the reception is just a small expression of our gratitude, appreciation and best wishes for your future. “I truly hope that what you have in store next is an adventure that is as fun and as impactful as the adventure you have been on so far,” Parks said. “We hope that it is filled with fun and laughter, some rest and relaxation, and that you make the same type of impact in what your next chapter entails as you have these past many years of service that you have had making an indelible mark on the lives of our students and your colleagues.”
AAEA President Fred Klein described the retirees as a remarkable group of individuals. “After years of unwavering dedication to your students, your schools and this community, you certainly deserve this next chapter in your lives,” Klein said. “Your careers have been defined by commitment and compassion. You’ve made countless sacrifices over the years. I know this, I see your cars in parking lots at schools on weekends and over breaks and late into the evenings.“
While many professions can’t say that they have made a difference in the world, Klein says people that work in schools can clearly see they have changed lives. “You shaped minds, built confidence and planted seeds of curiosity and hope that will grow long after you have left the classroom, that is meaningful work, challenging yes, but deeply meaningful and you should be proud of that.”
