A2 STEAM band students took their show on the road on Friday, Oct. 4 when they were the pep band for the University of Michigan’s Wheelchair Basketball Team at the Wolverine Invitational Tournament in Port Huron.
It all started last year when the band was invited to play some pep songs at the A2 Steam PE classes’ big end-of-year assembly.

“The assembly was a demonstration of wheelchair basketball skills, not only by the middle schoolers but also some teachers and the University of Michigan Wheelchair Basketball Team,” said AAPS Band Director Cara Boden. “The band had a great time energizing the crowd and had a blast playing fun music!”
“After last year’s event, the UM Wheelchair Basketball coach was so excited about how much the band added to the atmosphere, so she invited us to come to the Wolverine Invitational Tournament to support the U-M team by being their pep band. Many thanks to U-M Coach Jessica Wynne, the UM Adaptive Sports & Fitness Assistant Director Erik Robeznieks, and the University of Michigan for providing this incredible opportunity for the A2 Steam Band program.”
The students got the crowd going by playing The Victors and the pep songs Let’s Go Blue, Dynamite, and Seven Nation Army, and were featured during halftime when they performed Viva La Vida, Respect, and The Victors.
Great job!
