Editor’s note: Have you ever wished you could quietly peek into a classroom—not for a special event, but simply to see what an ordinary day looks like? That’s the idea behind our new feature, “A minute in the room,” in which we open the classroom door just a little wider and celebrate the little things that make our schools such special places.
School librarian Christina Nielsen is in her second year at Abbot and brings a decade of classroom-teaching experience to her role. Before becoming a librarian, she taught at Pittsfield Elementary and taught middle school in Canton.
For Nielsen, the library is more than a place to find a good book. It’s a place where students can see themselves in stories, learn about the world around them, and discover ideas that inspire them to make a difference.
“Being a librarian holds a special place in my heart,” Nielsen says. “My goal is to help students find books that they can connect with, learn about the world around them, and feel inspired to take action both now and in the future. Empathy is the driving force to a better tomorrow.”
