Skyline High School is getting ready for big laughs, unforgettable music and one very hungry plant as Skyline High School Theatre’s production of Little Shop of Horrors runs November 13th through 15th.

Little Shop of Horrors by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman first premiered off-off-broadway in 1982 and became a 1986 movie classic by director Frank Oz. Inspired by 1960s rock and roll, rhythm and blues, and Motown-style music, Little Shop of Horrors features memorable songs, fast-paced comedy, romance, and a delightfully spooky story.

Skyline’s production takes some inspiration from Little Shop’s origins as a black-and-white B-movie and has some fun visual surprises along the way. If you only know the movie, you’ll discover that certain moments play out very differently in the stage version.

Skyline Theatre Director Kristine Stephens says Howard Ashman was a genius, and he has you rooting for Seymour and Audrey by the end of the first scene. She says, “As outlandish as the show’s premise is, the motives and relationships of the characters are completely believable. Alan Menken’s music supports every moment and is extremely catchy.”

Stephens adds it’s her favorite show and Skyline students were excited about performing Little Shop of Horrors. “When it was announced, a loud ruckus erupted from the crowd,” Stephens says. “We are all so excited to work together on the fun music, amazing tech, and dark comedy that exudes from this iconic musical.”

Performances are at Skyline at 7 PM on Friday, November 13th; Saturday, November 14th; and at 2 PM on Sunday, November 15th. Tickets are available here or at the door 30 minutes before showtime.
