Young visitors rotated through hands-on activities across the building, from art and PLTW to the media center and culinary arts

Huron High School marked today’s Take Your Kid to Work Day with a focus on hands-on activities, giving students and younger visitors a look at work throughout the building. The event brought in families from multiple generations and gave staff a chance to share the school with their own children.
Courtney Medeiros, whose mother, Laura Mills, is Huron’s finance secretary, said the event was more engaging than the old-style bring-your-child-to-work day because every department had something for kids to do.
“They had activities in every department,” she said, adding that the day let children see “what goes on in each classroom” and made for “a really entertaining day,” she said, sitting beside her four-year-old daughter, Everleigh, in the media center.
The stops included art, PLTW, counseling, the library, science, and the greenhouse, with children making jewelry, choosing a 3D-print model, coloring, creating bookmarks, and taking home a plant.
Counselor Nicole Nunlee said she wanted her daughter to see the school’s programs up close. “I’ve worked at Huron for 20 years,” Nunlee said, adding that she has “great memories of coming to Huron and hanging out” and wanted her daughter to see “the wonderful programs that we offer.”
