AAPS leaders hold annual retreat to study strategic learning and district advancement

Leaders discuss ways to engage, energize, and elevate to ensure every student thrives

The AAPS District Leadership Council gathered at Skyline High School today for the first day of their annual retreat, united in their commitment to advancing student success and strengthening the district.

Educational leaders from elementary, middle, and high schools came together for intensive professional development and collaborative strategic planning designed to enhance teaching, learning, and support systems across all AAPS schools, which are set to open for the new year on Aug. 25.

Following an informal connections time, breakfast, and group and individual photography sessions, participants gathered for the opening general session, which featured welcome remarks and introductions, setting the tone for the collaborative day ahead.

Superintendent Jazz Parks welcomed the group, reminding them of the need to focus on one fact: “We are here for our students.”

Rotating leadership learning sessions were organized by school level, allowing leaders to focus on topics most relevant to their specific educational contexts.

Three concurrent sessions addressed critical district priorities:

  • SEL & TRAILS/MTSS: Social-Emotional Learning and Multi-Tiered System of Supports, rotating through elementary, high school, and middle/K8 levels.
  • Technology Updates/Capital Program Team: Infrastructure and technology advancement discussions for middle/K8, elementary, and high school levels, respectively.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Community and organizational collaboration sessions for high school, middle/K8, and elementary levels.

The day concluded with leaders from all levels coming together for breakout sessions on the topic: “Teaching & Learning: Teacher Clarity & Success Criteria,” ensuring district-wide alignment on instructional practices.

Participants will return on Wednesday for continued leadership learning sessions in the morning, followed by wellness activities in the afternoon.

Fellow leaders applaud Bill Harris, who will soon retire after holding several leadership positions at AAPS.
