Emma Crownover has turned something she loves into an even more special event. The Pioneer senior has been a part of FutureStars since she was a freshman and now another freshman will be watching in the wings for her last go around.
“I have been involved with FutureStars / RisingsStars since I was a freshman,” she says. “It’s a fun way to compete alongside my friends. This year is special because my brother, Chase, is a freshman in RisingStars and I am competing as a senior in FutureStars.”
Pioneer Theatre Guild’s FutureStars 2022 returns for its 20th year at the University of Michigan’s Power Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26.
Crownover says she is “excited” to be performing a solo, “Last Name,” by Carrie Underwood, and a duet.
“Both were assigned to me to fit my vocal range,” she says. “I can’t wait to sing the duet (“If I Ain’t Got You,” by Alicia Keys and John Mayer) with my close friend, Macaih!”
Crownover has been preparing for her performances by attending weekly vocal coaching sessions with two different coaches. “It’s been exciting to be singing again live and in-person,” she says.
And how does she deal with nerves?
“If I do get nervous, I like to turn it into positive energy,” she says.
Emma, 17, is the daughter of Denise and Scott Crownover. She is still narrowing down her college decision and is interested in pursuing social work and deaf studies.
“My dream career would be as a social worker and to advocate for children who don’t have a voice and help them get out of abusive situations,” she says.
Crownover has some important people she would like to thank.
“I want to thank the big three: Jayme, Frosty, and Mysti and all of our coaches for all their hard work to make FutureStars 2022 possible,” she says.
