The Ann Arbor Open Makers’ Fair showcasing projects that Ann Arbor Open students have made was a big success, according to Pete Pasque and Allyson Flaster, coordinators of the event.
The Makers’ Fair is held to showcase and celebrate creativity through making and creation of all sorts, defined as broadly as possible, Pasque said.
“There was a lot of sharing of ideas, excitement about friend’s projects, and interest in what the guest makers had to offer,” he said. “We had over 60 entries, 22 volunteers, and estimate over 100 visitors.”
The Maker Fair featured student creations that included luminaries, Legos, MineCraft resource pack, roller coaster, puppets, birdhouse, wolf fursuit (mascot), book series, a make-your-own-sandwich potluck station, and much more.
“Community makers came out to show off, inspire, educate, and publicize maker opportunities in the community,” Pasque said.
The guest makers included:
- Ann Arbor District Library: Maker Materials and Opportunities
- GameStart: Coding for kids
- Hearts For Mott’s: Our AAO students created craft hearts to give to children at Mott’s Hospital
- Ophir Crafts: Finger knitting and crafting classes
- Skyline High’s FIRST Robotics Team and robot: Robot demo and button making
