Logan Elementary students got quite the treat on Monday when six members of the University of Michigan Women’s Basketball team visited for the afternoon.

Cyesha Goree, Nicole Elmblad, Madison Ristovski, Rebecca Lyttle, Val Driscoll and Kendra Seto first participated in a Q & A session with the kids. They answered students’ probing questions (such as “Who’s your biggest rival?” and “What’s your favorite food?”) and also talked about competition and teamwork. “We even compete with each other in practice,” said Nicole Elmblad. “But the second we walk off the court, it stops.”

The athletes carried their competitive and supportive attitudes over to the gym where they spent nearly an hour shooting hoops with the kids. Two fifth graders, Daniela Walbridge and Shayla Bond, who Principal Terra Webster said were regarded as Logan’s star basketball players, logged plenty of playing time with the college athletes.

Webster was thrilled that not only did students get a chance to attend a women’s basketball game last month but that they also got to spend time with them on Monday. She hopes the school can host the team again next year.
