Two Skyline students win outstanding achievement award

The Breakfast Optimist Club of Ann Arbor gave two Skyline High School juniors, Olivia Thorp and Sarath Anand, the Harold Eastman Outstanding Youth Award last month.

Olivia Thorp has a GPA of 3.93. She participates in track and field and cross country, and she is also a member of the Women in Science and Engineering Club. She aspires to be a published author and nutritionist.

Sarath Anand has a 3.97 GPA and is the treasurer of the Student Action Senate. He participates in the SAS Link Crew, Science Olympiad and basketball. He aspires to attend the University of Michigan and/or Stanford in order to become a doctor, possibly specializing in neurology.

“I know for most big schools, they want students who have something above and beyond,” Sarath said. “I’m hoping this (award) will kind of give me the edge on that.”
